first Indian CM to be invited by the Government of Japan

INDIA : NEWS : Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has completed his four-day visit to Japan. Modi is the first Indian CM to be invited by the Government of Japan. The Gujarat CM had recently been to China where he got a similar red carpet welcome. The Gujarat Government claimed that after Modi’s China visit, Japanese leadership wanted to have closer relations with him.

Modi had a delegation level meeting with Yukio Edano, Minister for Economy, Trade and Industry, on various aspects of economy, industry, business and growing trade. He had discussed various innovative projects relating to renewable energy, infrastructure, tourism promotion, water management and other with the Japan’s Deputy Prime Minister.

He also had a wide ranging discussion with the Minister for Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism especially on Metro Rail, high speed connectivity from Ahmedabad-Dholera-Bhavanagar, other infrastructure, tourism promotion, air connectivity between Tokyo and Ahmedabad as traffic and visits from Japan to Gujarat and vice-versa are on the rise.

Both leaders have agreed that there are wide ranging areas where Japan and Gujarat should collaborate and it will be beneficial to all. Modi also held a detailed discussion with ex-Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who had initiated Delhi Freight Corridor and Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor. He reiterated his continued support to promote investment in Gujarat and accepted the invitation from Modi to visit Gujarat.

Modi also had a meeting with President, MDs and CEOs of top Japanese industries like Sumitomo Corporation, IHI Corporation, Mitsubishi Corporation, Hitachi, Itochu, Bank of Tokyo, Mizuho Financial Group, etc. and discussed their plan/ proposals for investment in Gujarat. He invited them to participate in the forthcoming Vibrant Gujarat Global Investor Summit to be held in January, 2013 at Mahatma Mandir, Gandhinagar.
