- Provision of technical expertise, leadership and supervision of same discipline staff on Projects.
- To ensure that engineering is carried out by them and their team in accordance with Company's procedures and contractual requirements.
- Approval of all technical decisions made by personnel under their supervision.
- To assist in the development of engineering techniques in the Offshore Structures and Marine Group, and bring to the attention of the Manager of Offshore Structures any inadequacies in the group’s capability for present and future projects.
- Undertake training of junior engineers, acting as a mentor to selected individuals.
- Provision of technical expertise, leadership and supervision of offshore structures staff on projects.
- To ensure that engineering is carried out in accordance with Company's Management System (CMS) procedures and contractual requirements.
- To ensure all members of the team reporting to them liaise and co-operate with other members of the Project team.
- To report to the Project Management and to the Manager of Offshore Structures on general progress including any problems, technical or otherwise, particularly in regard to man-hours, programme milestones and resources.
- Approval of all technical decisions made by less experienced Structural Engineers under their supervision.
- Prepare technical aspects of contract documentation for offshore structural and marine works.
- Provide technical input to tender clarification and evaluation work.
- Preparation of cost and man-hour estimates for proposals.
- Review scope of work and specifications for proposals.
- To assist in the development of engineering techniques in the Offshore Structures and Marine Group.
- To assist the department manager with development and maintenance of discipline procedures as part of the Company's management system (CMS).
Desired Skills & Experience
- BSc or BEng in Civil or Structural Engineering (Aero, mechanical or naval arch would also be considered). Chartered or very close to becoming chartered member of appropriate engineering institution e.g. IStructE, ICE, IMarEST. MSc or MEng in Civil or Structural Engineering, an advantage.
- At least 12 years relevant experience in design of offshore topsides structures.
- Should include all phases of engineering i.e. concept, FEED and detailed design.
- Previous supervisory experience as a senior engineer including evidence of planning work and estimating manhours for themselves and subordinates.
- Familiar with a range of design codes including AISC, API RP 2a, Dnv, NORSOK etc. Use of Staad and at least one other major analysis package used for offshore structural analysis (ASAS, SACS, DAMS, SEADYN etc).
- Experience with ASAS and/or Abaqus, an advantage.
- Good Communication and Leadership Skills. Good Problem Solving skills.
- Primarily UK based but may be required to undertake occasional business trops or assignments elsewhere.
